Mother's Day weekend the moms from my mom's group planned a camping trip to our favorite park. The weather was perfect and oddly (but thankfully) there were no mosquitos. Because of the drought there was a burn ban but we were able to have a propane stove. One of the moms innovated a new method for making s'mores or her griddle top. I have never seen that many children huddled so patiently around a table.
Both camp days were perfect for swimming in the Guadalupe. I love that river. Not only is it a gorgeous windy blue green surrounded by limestone on one side but on this occasion it was absolutely calm and shallow, perfect for the kids. There were lots of day trippers on the banks barbecuing amazing food. I must have walked past one grill in particular with my mouth hanging open because he man behind the grill saw my face and chuckled a bit with pride. He didn't offer me a rib though.
On Sunday Augie and Kris woke up and made me pancakes and bacon for breakfast (in fact they are making pancakes and bacon right now) and we lazed around the picnic table drinking coffee and taking in the last few moments of calm before we had to pack up. We took one last dip in the river before we left and hoped that we'd be able to make it back again soon.
