Enchanted Night Forest

From 08.2012

Augie Update:

  • This past week Augie graduated from the Rainbow Room to the Explorer Room! He's Big Man on Campus now.
  • When he was in Colorado he finally learned how to swing on Tendai's fort swing that Uncle Bro built in the backyard. We are proud to report he is still swinging.
  • Augie has started showing a lot of interest in writing letters and is still drawing all sorts of trucks. He fills in all the o's in the letters and writes them in all sorts of different patterns. It's REALLY cute.
  • He picked up Angry Birds (seen playing above) in about 5 minutes flat once Kris and I got Smart Phones and finally joined the 2000's.
  • He still really likes being tickled.
  • Augie LOVES wearing a life jacket while he's 'swimming' but has ZERO interest in really learning how to swim.
  • I recently gave Augie a traditional stick of gum - he takes a nibble, chews, spits it out then takes another nibble until the stick is gone. Not the method I suggested but it gets the job done.
  • Kris and Augie have been firing off a bunch of Estes rockets at a new development going up down the street. They were having pretty good luck until one rocket landed in a lake and the other blew it's bottom off.
  • He has two hermit crabs in his new classroom. They have painted shells and remind me of the large painted (and embellished with sparkles and teeny tiny chains) hissing cockroaches Kris and I saw in shop in Mexico. I still have bad dreams about them. Ew.
  • Speaking of shells, tonight Augie wanted to listed to the ocean in one of the large pink sea shells I have in the bathroom. He made it look like fun so I did it too. You know what? It's still really fun.
  • For the past three nights we've been playing Enchanted Night Forest, a game Augie made up. To play, he turns on his turtle star maker and the headlights on his Hess trucks and we enjoy a night under the stars. Tonight he got a little sidetracked by Angry Birds but he plans on doing this "every night forever" so we've got time to try it again.

Dart Bowl

This is the night I was humbled - eeking out a win over my four year old by only 6 points.
Q: Do all bowling alleys still smell like cigarette smoke from the eighties?
