Graduation

Last June Augie started preschool, yesterday he 'graduated'. If we were keeping him at this school he would have gone into the Primary classroom with the older kids, new teachers and bigger playground. To mark the transition, his school has a graduation ceremony where after getting hugs and kisses from their guides (teachers) each of the children walks (or runs, or hops on one foot, or scoots around the side crying) through the Gates of Life where upon we, the parents, greet their child and everyone says in unison, "On your journey, take our love."

Everyone is joyful, weepy and excited because we all know that tomorrow we'll be driving them to their first college dorm room. And while transitions are almost always good things, little moments like this just give me a minute to catch my breathe, hit the pause button and check out the view from where we are.

Augie made a lot of little buddies, played with a lot of dump trucks, got a better sense of his own voice and how to use it and really learned to love and trust his school environment and teachers. This summer he'll be joining new kids at a summer camp where he'll be swimming and doing gymnastics. To say he's excited would be a bold understatement.

Yep, little guy is growing up. Happy graduation, my dear.
