Summer 2.5

From July

From July

August is 2.5 years old and he is one crazy little crouton. Here are some things he's been up to:

Talking and Pretend
Since going to preschool his speech has improved quite a bit. He's been very conversational and has started to do a lot of pretend play which is just too cute.  We've been loving all of his little expressions - like when we tell him it's time for bed he'll say, "OK, but Mommy I want to play trucks four more times, then bed." You got it, four more times and then bed. So a minute or two later, "Hey Augie, it's been four times, so we gotta go." If he wants to linger a bit longer he'll tell us that he has to give all his trucks pluggys and water so that they can go to sleep too. Then he digs down around on the floor and pretends to give them all imaginary pacifiers. He says "Here ya go. Here ya go. Here ya go..." to each and every truck and car he has lined up on the sofa - so about a hundred times.

Stories
He has been loving his storybooks lately. We read him two at bedtime, he picks one and we pick one -  but on somedays he'll just bring me book after book all day long until you couldn't possibly believe he'd even want to sit still for another.

The other day after he woke up from his nap I asked him if had nice dreams. He told me "Oh,yes!" (sounding just like Sylvester the Cat). When I asked him what he dreamed about he said tractors and books. Mommy melt....  : )

Loves to Eat
toast, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches, Quesadillas (with black beans and cheese), noodles, edamame, dip - meaning salsa, guacamole, hummus or whatever else you got in a small cup, blueberries and yogurt, strawberries, melon, carrots, olives, chips (to go with his guacamole dip), raisins, Cheerio's,  pancakes, and of course ICE CREAM!  Now he eats lots of other things but these are the foods that he yells "Whoooa HO HO!" for when you put it down in front of him. Gotta love his enthusiasm!

New Things He Does
• Pouting! Can you believe it? Big old Mick Jagger lipped pouting. When I do it back to him he laughs like crazy because it just looks so silly.
• Telling me to go away. For the most part this happens when he's eating at the table. For some reason he wants me to go in the other room so he can be by himself. He will flatly refuse to eat unless I leave. I don't know why he does this but when I come back he has indeed eaten all of the food on his plate. I dunno.
• Starting to dress and undress himself, but mostly undress followed by running around the house with a bare butt and lots of giggling.
• Loves to cook. We made pancakes again this morning and he just gets so into it. I've also been teaching him how to cut things with his little Gerber knife using the cutting board. He concentrates so hard and is so proud of what he accomplishes.

Still Loves
• Playing Cars and Trains - No matter how many vehicles he has, and he has a LOT, he knows exactly who gave it to him and when. Kris just put a broken motorcycle back together last night and he's had it in his hot little hands ever since. He's absolutely enchanted and mesmerized.
• Tractors - although lately he's been getting more specific and asking for rides on Grandpa's Pony tractor
• Fire Trucks - Last weekend we went to his buddy's birthday party and his uncle took all the kids over to the VFD for a quick climb on the engine and look-see at all the lights. He almost died right there on the spot. He even got to wear a helmet!
• Bike Rides & Choo Choo Rides - Never says no and is always ready to go. Even better when Kris does BOTH with him on a weekend afternoon!

Great update! I can't wait to see a photo of the pout.
I can't believe August is 2.5 already.
Keep cool this summer!
