August and I went down to the Blanton Museum of Art for kids' storytime and art discussion and we got to take THE (AWESOME!) BUS! Hurray for the BUS! It's been a bit rainy around here with Hurricane Alex churning away to the south so a morning at the museum was perfect. Our guide talked about the artwork with the kids and then read a story that went along (in a general way) with the piece we were looking at. For the most part everything went pretty well but the guards were working overtime trying to keep curious hands off the brightly colored sculptures and canvases (us included, even though we tried so hard).
I was amazed listening to August tell me what he saw - a large three foot statue consisting of four large yellow ovals became a butterfly, a big blue splotch in the middle of a white canvas was a pool "dat's de wah-der", and a stroll through the Matisse exhibit got a happy and energetic "Whoooa HOHO!!!". I think we'll go again but maybe limit our visit to about 30 minutes, just enough time to see some beautiful things, keep our focus and get back on the WONDERFUL BUS! Because really, the bus is what it's all about ; )
