A mom friend of mine told me about the North Pole Flyer several months back. It's a two hour steam engine ride complete with storytelling, Santa and Mrs. Claus, caroling, cookies and cocoa and every child even gets a wooden train whistle. Well, of course this thing sells out every year in January but I happened to check back on the website about a month ago and they added another trip two days after Thanksgiving!
I told my mom's group since the train was empty when I got tickets and we quickly filled up half of the Chicago Car. We made it a surprise excursion for Grandma and Grandpa who were very good sports to dress up for the holidays without us telling them where they were going. We were up and down visiting with friends and Santa. So much fun!
August's favorite place was between the cars so that he could look out the bare side without a window to get in his way. He loved all the lights and bells at the crossing and of course the very LOUD whistle! CHOO CHOO!!! When he saw cars parked at the tracks he'd wave furiously, "BYE BYE! BYE BYE" then snuggle into my shoulder.
