Say hello to my little friend.

This is Stumpy. He's a little Gecko that lives around this tree. He, along with a family of sinewy squirrels, keep tabs on us through our living room and kitchen windows. He's bright leafy green most of the time, but changes to bark brown if the mood stirs him. He also has a beautiful pinky red throat (that kind of looks like he's blowing Hubba Bubba through a hole in his neck) but I haven't been able to catch a picture of that yet. The reason we named him Stumpy is that half his tail has been chewed off, presumable by Pumas or Cheetahs. He chirps too.

August, he looks just like the little lizard that frightened me and your Daddy when he got inside our house in Mississippi. Your Grandpa came home and "removed" him from the premises and reminded him he was an outdoor lizard, not a pet! :-) When you get older we'll have to read some stories about lizards--too fun! Hugs, Grams xoxoxoxoxo

Geckos can detach their tails if threatened, which is a wild concept when you think of it (and a scary one for pet owners who don't know of the ability and proceed to freak their new gecko out).

So the tail is probably growing back, which is why it looks odd.

Why do I know this? My son's gecko, Jabba (as in Jabba the Hut) has yet to lose his tail, but could, as we remind him everytime he reaches in to Jabba's home.

Nice posts -- please keep writing. It was wonderful to see you in Vermont. The weather today is sublime.
