Last night we headed over to the 1st Street bridge for Batfest 2008. You'd think that with a million bats taking flight we'd see one. But nope - no bats for us. We found out (somewhere around the time we were all looking for the bats to take flight) that in order to actually see the bats you really do need to be on the Congress Street bridge. This year, in order to appease angry shop owners on Labor Day weekend, the promoters moved it one bridge down Lady Bird Lake to 1st Street. Good for shops that rely on car traffic for customers, bad for Batfesters that wanted to see bats AND eat corndogs. We had a good time anyways of course - warm night, tasty beer, good (albeit bad for you) food, a petting zoo and face painting. Next year we'll be on the other bridge eatin' our corn dogs though.
