I don't know if you've heard me say this before, but Texas is hot. It's always been hot. Which is why the fine folks of Austin built the mammoth Deep Eddy pool fed by the cold spring waters of the Colorado River in 1915. It was the first swimming pool ever built in Texas. Why? Because I'm thinkin' they were hot. However, according to my Wiki sources it used to be that people just swam in the cold river until "A.J. Eilers, Sr. bought the land surrounding the swimming hole and built the concrete pool". See? He built it to make money and sell snow cones. Genius!
"The pool served as the centerpiece of a resort, the Deep Eddy Bathing Beach, which featured cabins, camping, and concessions. Lorena's Diving Horse was one popular attraction. As seen in historic photographs, a ramp led to a 50 foot tall diving platform over the pool's deep end from which the horse and rider would dive. Other pool amenities included a zip line across the pool and a tall slide, while other attractions included a diving baby and a Ferris wheel." - Wikipedia
The pool is still quite lovely, but there are no longer any zip lines or horse and buggy water tricks. Since it's fed by springs there's no need for chlorine which makes it all the more wonderful. The waters are blue green and bracingly cold. Usually around 68ยบ or so. We had a great time splashing around yesterday and even resurrected the diving baby trick. Yep, Fuzz went for a dunk and he seemed ok with it. I won't go so far to say he liked it, but he didn't scream either. Here's us with his new crab catamaran. What a swimmer!
The day ended with some hoity toity frito pie (goat cheese, queso, pulled pork AND brisket over fritos) and a martini over at Lambert's on 2nd. The guy at the table next door nearly begged us to get the frito pie because it was so good. Normally I would have dismissed that "appetizer", but I'm glad we didn't. Soooooooo good. We moved on to some kickin' BBQ and finished it up with a fried blackberry pie with lemon ice cream. Needless to say, we'll be back. And if you're lucky, maybe we'll take you with us sometime.

Love your crab catamaran, August! Wish I had one of those!!! Looks like you're having a fun summer with Mommy and Daddy! Tell Mommy thanks for sending all the photos--we so look forward to them!
